The teacher who works another shift at Dunkin' Donuts after school just to make ends meet, she needs us to reform our education system so that she gets better pay and more support and her students get the resources that they need to achieve their dreams.
It is also about what you, the people who love this country, the citizens of the United States of America, can do to change it. But the reason our campaign has always been different, the reason we began this improbable journey almost a year ago is because it’s not just about what I will do as president. All of the candidates in this race have good ideas and all are patriots who serve this country honorably. And we will never use 9/11 as a way to scare up votes, because it is not a tactic to win an election.

Theirs are the stories and voices we carry on from South Carolina. There will be setbacks and false starts and sometimes we'll make mistakes. So let me remind you tonight that change will not be easy. And so this is a battle in our own hearts and minds about what kind of country we want and how hard we're willing to work for it.
Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. In this country, we rise or fall as one nation — as one people. This victory alone is not the change we seek — it is only the chance for us to make that change. We may not get there in one year, or even one term, but America — I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor's bills, or save enough for college.
